This beautiful soul actually saved my life.
As a new nurse myself, I have had the pleasure of having Brittany as my preceptor in the ICCU. Brittany not only exudes extreme competence in all she does, but kindness as well. Watching and learning from her as a nurse has been nothing short of an absolute honor. She is intelligent, funny, and above all else, a safe nurse.
This beautiful soul actually saved my life. Brittany has been aware of my own personal mental and physical health struggles since shortly after starting my new position. She always checks in, making sure I take breaks and eat and drink, but two days ago, I didn’t wake up in bed. My fiancé found me in respiratory failure, and I was rushed to the nearest ER. I was intubated and in the ICU.
When I didn’t show up for my shift or answer my phone, Brittany called the local police AND called every hospital within three counties until she was smart enough to ask that they give the phone to my fiancé. They exchanged numbers, and she was able to relay the message to our wonderful manager, who has checked in on me every day since.
I can’t say that I have ever looked forward to working alongside someone as much as I do, Brittany. She may not have been MY nurse at bedside, but she went above and beyond as a preceptor, a nurse, AND a friend. To me, this is exactly what the DAISY Award is for. To recognize someone special, not just as a nurse, but such an incredible, honorable, and special human being.
I thank God every day for putting that beautiful soul into my life, and I look forward to many, many more years working alongside her.
