I was induced to have our son. This was our miracle baby after 3 years of infertility and 3 cycles with Shady Grove Fertility. This was our answered prayer.
The evening nurse that came on shift was Brittany. They say that God puts people in your life for a purpose. I didn't realize how accurate that was until that night. Our son was delivered that evening not breathing. I will never forget the little peek I got of him before they rushed him away. He was as gray as storm clouds. But he was our rainbow already in so many ways. He had been in cardiac arrest with no oxygen reaching his brain for about 4 minutes.
The team of NICU doctors and nurses were able to get him resuscitated and intubated. As they prepped him to be flown to York Hospital, my husband left to prepare to drive and follow him. I was a new mom for the first time and I had to say goodbye not only to my newborn son but my husband as well while I stayed behind.
No one could promise us if our son would live long enough to make it to York. I was numb. I was exhausted. I was angry. Brittany never left my side. She was my cheerleader during delivery, and then instantly became my supporter afterward. She cried with me. She held my hands as I prayed. She rejoiced with me when I got the call saying that he was alive at York NICU and already breathing over the machine!
I speak with my entire heart when I say that I could not have made it through that night without her. She is more than worthy of this award. When I tell my son about the night he was born one day, she will be the reason his mama made it through the night, just like his doctors and the lord were the reason he did. Our son will be 2 in July and every single night before I put him to bed, I pray over him and I thank my God for her.
