My wife and I were 1 day post-partum with our first baby when we met Brittany for the first time in the post-partum unit. Like almost all new moms, my wife was really struggling with breastfeeding, and we quickly became overwhelmed with worry that the baby wasn't getting what was needed. Brittany came into our room and immediately put our worries at ease and stepped up to help; however, she was more than just that, doing her job. You could tell she had something about her personality that just can't be taught or learned. She was patient, genuinely kind and caring, and beyond knowledgeable as an RN and location consultant. She then continued to see us the next day, spending more time than most would in our room, not only to continue educating but also to just be present, as her presence alone continued to put our worries at ease in a way that is hard to describe in words. You have to just experience it firsthand.

The next day after leaving the hospital, we continued to struggle with breastfeeding at home. As we were going through our resources, trying to find information on lactation consultants to see outside the hospital, we got a phone call. It was Brittany. She was calling unprompted to just check in, follow up with us, and offer any way she could help. She then found the next earliest appointment for us to come in, once again putting our worries at ease. She did not know it, but I work as a physician, and in my experience and interaction with plenty of nurses and ancillary staff, I can honestly say Brittany has something special to her that sets her apart from others, truly going above and beyond for her patients in a genuine manner. A kind of something that anyone in healthcare should learn from, including myself. We will always be grateful to her and never forget what she's done for us and what I know she's done for countless other families over the years. She embodies every quality a DAISY Award recipient should have.
