My son was pretty terrified every time the door opened after having his IV put in. The nurses that put it in were amazing at it, though! But our nurse yesterday, Brittany, came to see him when her shift started, and she could tell he was still worked up about everything. She went and charged up the power wheels car and showed it to him so he could drive it around and down to the playroom! That really made him smile and get him back to feeling like himself again.
Brittany also bought him little things to help to get him to drink fluids, which really helped. She just had a way about her that made him feel very safe and comfortable. Even though everyone was amazing, Brittany was the only one he did not cry and scream every time she checked his IV or came in the room. She just made it important to gain his trust first and show him she was helping him and made stuff fun!
