My father was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and was sent to Banner Boswell for a lobectomy. After the surgery, he was in the ICU. Our family stayed with him all day, but we went home around 6 PM and left my dad in the care of the ICU staff. When I arrived the next morning to stay with him, he couldn't stop talking about how wonderful his nurse was.

When I walked into the ICU room this morning, my dad looked incredible and was in such great spirits. I believe this is because of the wonderful care he received. Nurse Brittany took care of him all night, and in his words, she was extremely compassionate and caring. We were informed that she is actually a newer nurse at this hospital (only two weeks), and you would never know. She made my dad feel comfortable and relaxed during a time when he could've been overwhelmed with so many horrible thoughts.

It's very easy for nurses, who see so many patients in one day, to be transactional and rushed. Brittany took the time to personally talk to my dad, have conversations with him (trust me, he loves to talk), and take his mind off being alone and through a terrible experience. She doesn't realize what a great impact she made by just being a nice, caring, person. We wanted to nominate her because even though she hasn't worked at this location long, this would be a great reminder of why being a great nurse and just a great person, makes the world go round. This could be great motivation to stick with her career because clearly, she chose correctly. I thank her from the bottom of my heart for taking care of my dad in such a thoughtful way (even though she may just think she was doing her job).
