On behalf of the Oncology leadership team, we are writing to highlight Brittany’s exceptional contributions and her consistent support of both the oncology service line and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH). In addition to teaching courses for both new and experienced RNs at a regional level, Brittany plays a vital role in our department. She consistently provides essential guidance, mentorship, and support to our new RN residents, preceptors, and leadership team. It is a common and reassuring sight to see Brittany on the unit, working one-on-one with a nurse to prepare them for administering a new chemotherapy regimen. She ensures they feel confident, competent, and fully supported, carefully reviewing protocols, answering questions, and confirming that every detail is in place for safe patient care. Her hands-on approach, accessibility, and genuine investment in others foster both clinical excellence and a culture of continuous learning. Brittany exemplifies the very essence of an outstanding educator. Empowering nurses strengthens practice and ultimately enhances the quality of care we provide to our patients. Brittany is an anchor that connects our inpatient and outpatient teams. She doesn't just teach our teams how to manage complex chemo regimens; she teaches them how to sit with a patient in fear, how to explain a diagnosis with empathy, and how to look after ourselves so we can continue to care for others. She helps us navigate the complexities of oncology and provides our nurses with tools to maintain their professionalism, often in the face of great moral distress. A skill that can only be fostered through support and practice. Brittany’s dedication and expertise continue to be a significant asset to our interdisciplinary team, our service line, and the broader organization.
