She was so patient with us and thorough in her education, which definitely helped to ease our anxieties of being first-time parents.
Our baby girl was born and unexpectedly transferred to the Cardinal Glennon NICU the next day. As first-time parents, we were going through a roller coaster of emotions: we had just experienced the happiest day of our lives one day and then the worst day of our lives the next. We were unsure of what to expect and terrified of what was going to happen to our baby girl. When we arrived to the NICU, we were greeted by the most sincere and empathetic nurse Brittany. She immediately told us what we could expect as far as what was going to happen to our daughter (labs, imaging monitoring, etc.) and also gave us an approximate timeline of when the doctor and nurse practitioner would see us, given that it was almost the Christmas Eve holiday. She not only tended to our daughter with care and compassion but also to my husband and me. I had just had an emergent C-section the day before, and for lack of better words, I was very uncomfortable. Every time she came into the room to assess our daughter, she also checked on my husband and me and did everything she could to make us comfortable, such as getting us extra pillows, blankets, drinks, snacks, meal cards, etc. She was also a phenomenal resource for breastfeeding. As I had only been a Mom for 24 hours, I was very new to breastfeeding and had much to learn. Brittany was very patient and took the time to assist me with feeding our daughter, and gave me tips and tricks to breastfeed comfortably. Also, as we had an expedited discharge from our original hospital, we had not received much discharge education as far as taking care of a newborn and postpartum care. Brittany was a godsend in the education department. She took the time to go through numerous topics of newborn care and answered all of our questions. She was so patient with us and thorough in her education, which definitely helped to ease our anxieties of being first-time parents. My husband and I still talk about how much we learned from her, and we're so thankful we had her as a nurse. Overall, Brittany went above and beyond in her nursing practice. She not only took exceptional care of our daughter but also took care of our family as a whole. She truly was a Christmas "gift" to help us through one of the most difficult situations in our lives, and we 100% believe she deserves recognition with the DAISY Award.
