I have had depression most of my life. Being a single mom meant that all my energy went to my kids, not to myself. After 20 years, I ended up in the hospital because of an infection in my leg. Brittany was a light in the darkness. She didn’t judge. She took time out of her day to sit and talk with me about mental health, even though I wasn’t even there for that. She just saw it was a need and did it. She told me I mattered. It had been so long since I’d heard that. Because of my depression, I had neglected my hair. In the hospital, I was told I had sleep apnea, but I couldn’t use the CPAP machine because of the ball that was my hair. She started her shift and asked about my hair and then simply offered to cut it. I could tell she was sincere and not judgmental. She simply wanted to help. So, she cut my depression hair. She doesn’t even know how much that one simple gesture changed my life. Then she stayed and tried to style it, so she could sit and talk to me about my struggles. I know I said it before, but she saved my life, and I will never forget her light.
