I could not be more grateful that she was working that night. She even gave this worried mama a hug!
Our little miracle baby was having some difficulties adjusting to life outside the womb. Brittany was a night shift nurse working that night, but she was not the nurse assigned to us. W was having difficulty breathing and was taken to the nursery in the middle of the night. Brittany helped take care of him and she put in multiple IVs that our wild man repeatedly ripped out. W continued to struggle. As parents we were scared, but Brittany continued to keep us updated with everything that was happening. W had multiple lab draws that kept clotting and weren’t accepted by the lab. Brittany then personally ran his labs to the Lab, while pregnant mind you.
Our little guy then needed to be transferred to the ICU and take his first ambulance ride. I was not yet discharged from the hospital and was told I would have to stay until I was. Brittany was a wonderful advocate for me so I could go with my baby. She even made sure my discharge paperwork was completed so my husband and I could follow our baby in the ambulance to the NICU at another facility. I could not be more grateful that she was working that night. She even gave this worried mama a hug!
I know Brittany may feel she was just doing her job, but it is nurses like her that make all the difference in a scary situation, and she deserves recognition for being amazing! All while she wasn’t even our nurse, but her caring and compassionate nature took over regardless. We are happy she was there for our little boy and for us. She may not have been the nurse assigned to us, but she will always be our nurse and the nurse whose kindness made the biggest impact on us.
