We listened to the wife's concerns as the Medical Management doctor answered all of her questions. The doctor left the room and the wife pulled us aside to compliment the care she received at UH East and its staff on the great care she felt her husband received while here in the hospital.
She pointed out one of the first moments she'd had with a newer nurse to the unit. The wife states that she was singing to the patient an old Baptist hymn to let the patient know that she was present. She'd explained that they met as teenagers, fell in love and had 6 children and remain married after 55 years. They both had grown up in church. While the wife was singing, Brittnee entered the room and asked if they needed anything. She completed her assessment and began singing the hymn with the spouse. Brittnee left the room.
The rest of the nursing staff had not heard the patient speak at all. Over the next few days, Brittnee Moore, assigned to the patient continued to interact with him until finally one day he said to her, "What are you doing in here now?"
Brittnee turned around and explained she was fixing his shade to let the sunlight in. Brittnee was very surprised to hear him talk and in a complete sentence, as his "memory" waned from time to time. He remembered her.
The wife had observed this and knew that she was in the right place (UH East) as her husband had clearly connected to Brittnee. She was very appreciative for the great care that she received here at UH East.
