Her warm and welcoming presence, along with her constant smile, makes the learning environment feel safe and encouraging.
Professor Brittany Butler is deserving of the DAISY Award because she exhibits exactly what a nurse and nursing instructor should be. Dr. Butler is the kind of educator every student hopes for. She's kind but firm, always encouraging us to think more deeply. Her warm and welcoming presence, along with her constant smile, makes the learning environment feel safe and encouraging. As an anxious student nurse, I never felt ashamed of making mistakes in her clinical, she made sure I saw them as opportunities to grow. Her support and encouragement truly empowered me.
Dr. Butler went above and beyond for her students in their clinical rotations. She provided resources to her students for them to use to study for their clinicals and classes. She did not have to do this, but she deeply cared for her students and their education. Dr. Butler encouraged questions, and she cleared away any confusion her students had through her answers. If she did not have an immediate response to a student's question, she would research the question, find an answer, and explain the answer to the student.
Dr. Butler made sure that every moment was a learning and teaching moment in clinical rotations. She encouraged her students to seek out opportunities in their clinical environments. She would allow students to arrive late to lunch or to the end-of-day meetings because they had an opportunity to gain experience or grow their knowledge. Dr. Butler listened and advocated for her students. She encouraged students to provide feedback, and she would promptly implement changes based on their feedback. Dr. Butler encourages her students to be the best nurses they can be, and she will be remembered as my favorite nursing instructor. She deserves the DAISY Award because she made me and all of her students better nurses.
