Brittni let herself be vulnerable almost as if he was part of her family. It’s the first time I can truly say I’ve ever seen a nurse get emotional while saying goodbye.
My father was in Brittni’s care after he was moved from ICU to 8 west. She was a very attentive nurse to him and his needs. As was she to ours, the family. She would listen to stories I told of him in what seemed amazement. As we realized things were getting worse and moved him to palliative care. She became an angel, that if I could have given her wings then I would have. She not only was checking on and comforting my dad, but she was checking on my family and giving us the comfort, we needed. As she was ending her rotation and updating the new nurse, she made it a point to come back to his room check on him one last time and tell him goodbye. As I’m sure she knew he wasn’t going to make it the night. But she also took time to comfort my mom again as well as my brother and myself. She went out of her way when in reality, he was just another patient where you need to separate your emotions. But she let herself be vulnerable almost as if he was part of her family. It’s the first time I can truly say I’ve ever seen a nurse get emotional while saying goodbye. Thank you Brittni for being more than sympathetic but being the angel, we needed, especially my mom! It really touched her. Whatever you whispered to her she holds it tight. The hospital could use more nurses and doctors like Brittni Weiss.
