Due to Brook’s quick thinking and actions the patient was spared having any further complications from his wound.
Even though Brook serves in different roles, she always brings a positive can-do attitude along with her which rubs off on the rest of her team. Brook truly incorporates the Mayo Clinic Health System Mission statement of “the patient comes first” into her daily practice and encourages her team members to do the same. There are numerous examples of Brook’s kindness to patients and team members along with being supportive to everyone she meets.
The example I would like to share is when Brook was caring for an outpatient who had been coming to the unit for wound vac dressing changes three times a week. The wound was odorous, and the patient was self-conscious about this fact, but Brook always showed him kindness and compassion. When he was experiencing complications from the wound on a visit she took charge of the situation for the patient by contacting the surgeon and informing him of the situation and the patient was then transferred to LAX for further follow-up from the surgeon and admitted to the hospital for several days. Due to Brook’s quick thinking and actions the patient was spared having any further complications from his wound. Thank you Brook for all that you do!
