Brooke was kind and supportive when the patient felt that her world was thrown upside down.
When I was working as a therapist on Labor Day, I was glad to have one of my coworkers working with me. Not only was she working a holiday but she was working a double shift and then will be continuing with her regular work during the rest of the week. One of our patients on the unit found out during this hospitalization that she was pregnant. It was quite a shock for her and the news was not broken to the patient subtlety. Brooke took charge of the situation and worked to make her experience better. Brooke was kind and supportive when the patient felt that her world was thrown upside down. Additionally, this patient was detoxing and there were concerns about giving her medications due to her new pregnancy. Brooke worked with the MD and quickly helped coordinate a regimen to help ease her detox (patient's COWS scores were in the teens) and keep the patient and her baby from having anything bad happen to them (seizure, medical complications, needing to be sent out, or death). I'm very glad for Brooke's quick action and her concern for the patient's medical and emotional care. By the end of the stay, the patient was more accepting of her pregnancy and using it as a motivator for her sobriety. I am always glad to work with Brooke because she is kind and easy to work with. But more importantly, when I work with Brooke, I know that my patients will be safe.
