She took time to reassure me of her dedication to my son.
My son was in the ICU and is cognitively disabled and nonverbal. I was so concerned that he would not be able to have his needs met let alone make them known, so I was given permission to stay with him 24 hours. Although I wasn’t aware of it at the time, Brooke took care of me as much as she did my son. She explained everything as it was happening and as I asked (I am sure more than once) without seeming to lose patience or focus. She took time to reassure me of her dedication to my son. She had been a live-in caregiver for three years prior to becoming a nurse. I could see she “got” my son and celebrated each improvement without overwhelming us. It was because of my trust in Brooke that I was able to leave the hospital and get some much-needed sleep for decisions I would be asked to make for my son. Thank you, Brooke!
