Our patients have an expectation when they walk through these doors. Those expectations are set by their personal experiences and values, through word of mouth or others' experiences, and they may even come from those we interact with on social media. Whether this is their first child or seventh, these expectations remain. No two patients are the same. One delivery may seem textbook, while the next has its challenges. One thing that is consistent is that our Patients need to feel understood and to feel supported in their need to get through that process that we refer to as labor and delivery.
Today, I have the privilege to share how a hospital visit was turned into an extraordinary experience, through care and compassion delivered by one of our own, Brooke Danielson. This patient wanted to recognize the whole department but Brooke really stood out.
Before I read the nomination, I want to point out some additional things that make Brooke so important to our patients, and our team.
Brooke is always smiling and approaches her day with a unique enthusiasm that is contagious to be around. She LOVES to teach - she volunteers to precept any new employees, or the many students that come through whether they are HS interns, WITC clinical rotation, or Transitions course students - she raises her hand and says - I would love to! Think about the impression her enthusiasm leaves on these students, and the new employees we strive to retain. In addition to this, she has also started to assist with instructing the Prenatal Classes offered through MMC Rice Lake.
Brooke came to me with a suggestion and she took my okay and ran with it. She and another nurse started up the Department Sunshine committee, (When I asked what they would need from me, they said - nothing - we got this). This committee finds ways to bring focus on fun and the positive things we do every day. They organize fun gatherings, prepare and present the Employee of the Month announcement and gifts, give out birthday gifts and encourage staff to recognize each other for our accomplishments.
I have other examples such as the numerous times she has come in on SNC or flexed her schedule, Improvement projects she has helped with. All of that and more...
We LOVE having Brooke on our team!
With all that being said, here is the nomination;
"Brooke was phenomenal throughout the whole induction and birth of our daughter. She was kind, sweet and so attentive. She was a calming presence during the delivery. Brooke was knowledgeable and awesome. What a great team! Thank you, Brooke and all of the L&D nurses!"
