Brooke personalizes her care and approach to each patient based on their procedure, their emotions, and any additional stories the patient may share during their limited time together.
As a coworker of Brooke's, I have observed her compassionate nursing to every patient she cares for and her constant participation in teamwork. There is not a patient under Brooke's care who does not compliment her. Just ask PACU, and they can agree with my previous sentence. She's been described as kind, sweet, gentle, patient, and every other description of the kind of nurse every patient hopes to have care for them.
Despite how busy it may get at the surgery center, Brooke's approach is never rushed; each patient receives their care in a timely manner in which they are not late for their procedure but yet each patient feels at ease and not hurried. Her care is never generic; her conversations with the patients are always patient-centered. She personalizes her care and approach to each patient based on their procedure, their emotions, and any additional stories the patient may share during their limited time together. Whatever the patient's wants or needs are, Brooke shows patients respect based on their requests.
Week after week, Brooke comes in every single day from Monday to Friday, yet her participation in teamwork never changes. She's cognizant of her co-workers and is continuously offering her help to ease each nurses' workload. When there's no help needed from any of the nurses, Brooke is proactive in looking for what else can be done at the surgery center to ensure the surgery center is running smoothly. There's never a day Brooke isn't restocking the IV fluid warmers, restocking our IV caddies, restocking gowns in the cabinets, preparing medication/supplies for the next day's cataract patients, ensuring there's a patient bed in each bay, and filing paperwork into each patient chart. All of these sound like such small tasks, but it is these small tasks that help the surgery center to continue to run smoothly.
After reviewing my observations of Brooke and how delightful she is as a co-worker and as a nurse towards her patients, I can tell that she continues to have that fire in her for the love of her job. She continues to be a joy to work with and her hard work is truly appreciated. I don't think I could ever thank her enough for how blessed I am to have her as a coworker.
