I have never seen a manager who is not only compassionate about their employees but also about the patients. If there is ever a patient need, Brooke is there to find the solution.
Brooke is a nurse manager, but she really is so much more than that. Brooke does anything needed for her unit. She has the biggest heart and cares for every single patient who crosses our threshold. She speaks with the patients, listens to their concerns, learns their names, hears their stories, and genuinely enjoys being with them. I have never seen a manager who is not only compassionate about their employees but also about the patients. If there is ever a patient need, Brooke is there to find the solution.
During the ice storm, Brooke ensured that all her staff was arriving safely to work - even going to pick them up in the ice. She spent her own money and brought food for us - she even left to find places that were open and brought us food. She stayed on 3 East the entire time. She ensured that each of her staff members was taken care of and that the patients had adequate personnel to take care of them. Brooke even helped out on other units when they needed her.
Her leadership is firm but fair, mixed with Lead-by-Example. She can be stern and a shoulder to cry on. Furthering our education and our careers is something she encourages us to do and offers her assistance. She has shown us that she does not expect us to do anything she would not do herself. I came in late to work to find her in my patient's room giving a Hibiclens bath. I have seen her work days and nights, as a charge nurse, in telemetry, and even answering call lights. In those rare times when a patient or family member "crosses the line", she stands up for us. We can depend on her. Most importantly she has fostered a positive work environment. She has built a TEAM that supports, respects, and helps one another. Brooke values her employees and shows us each and every day how much she cares for us. I don’t know if she knows how much she is appreciated or even if we see how hard she works for us, but we do. I cannot express how much Brooke brings to this organization. She is more than a manager, she is a leader and exemplifies the heart of nursing. Brooke is a field of daisies and a true DAISY Nurse Leader.
