I was hospitalized recently, and want to share my thoughts on my stay. I spent the bulk of my time in 6 West, Neuro Medical. I have to tell you that the staff members on that unit were simply amazing in so many ways! Their professionalism, skills, expertise and knowledge were what one would expect from a world class unit. From the moment I arrived on the 6th floor to the moment I left, I was treated much better than I deserved. I will never consider anyplace other than St. Joe's in the future!
Last, but certainly NOT least, is Brooke. Let me say, she is a keeper. Brooke was my first contact upon being transferred from ICU to Neuro Medical. She immediately made me feel as if I were the only patient there, helping me to settle right into my new room. From that moment, I knew I was in good hands. I was blessed to have had her as my day nurse for parts of 4 days, and the way she treated me was unbelievably gracious and kind. She demonstrated compassion, character, kindness, and the personality that all nurses would do well to emulate. One can never underestimate the impact of a first impression, and our initial meeting set a wonderful tone for the rest of my stay.
She was very attentive, and I never had to ask for anything. She constantly went above and beyond by always exceeding any reasonable expectations. She showed an inspiring commitment to her profession, and has an amazing heart. She also has a wonderful sense of humor, and knew just what to say, and when to say it. The highlight for me was being her first catheter removal. I was totally at ease and felt safe in her hands, and she performed the removal flawlessly. She is an amazing nurse, and a true blessing to me. I will never forget what she has done for me.
While I am, fortunately, not a veteran of many hospital stays, I know I have not met a nurse quite like her. She took every care to make sure that I lacked for nothing, in a professional and caring way. She demonstrated an amazing heart and an inspirational commitment to her profession. I know there are many skilled, knowledgeable nurses capable of treating patients at the highest levels. But, while she did that, she also made me feel like I mattered. Always taking time to answer questions and making sure that I had what I needed, she went above and beyond my wildest expectations! I have to say that she inspired me to strive to emulate her passion and commitment to serving others with a humble heart, as Christ calls us to do. For me, she is the epitome of who a nurse ought to be, as she is a great blessing to those she serves. I hope AMITA realizes what a rare treasure she truly is.
