November 2022 Honoree
Brooke Grasso, BSN, RN
On Thursday, I left Tisch 16 East without my husband of 22 years. F passed at 2pm that same day overwhelmed by liver cancer. Though bereft and empty I did leave Tisch 16 East with something of incalculable value. Over 4 days, F's nurses were also my nurses. Nursing to the living in shock and despair is no easy task. Based on their training and knowledge and experience, I am sure they knew F was dying from the onset. Yet somehow they were able to nurse him, to always be pleasant and impart comfort and allay fear. They did all this while protecting me from the finality they had to know F and I were facing. Brooke cared for F for the last 4 days. Both F and I were nursed by Brooke and I will be eternally grateful. Brooke showed sensitivity and a realistic balance between care and comfort. Brooke is a genuinely kind and caring nurse. She went above and beyond to take care of me during my hospitalization. She made sure that I had everything I needed and was always extremely pleasant. She is the true definition of what a nurse should be. Thank you, Brooke.
Thank you, Brooke, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
