My father-in-law, L, had a pacemaker surgery performed at the Cath Lab. From start to finish Brooke Hayward was amazing at making him feel at ease. L is 94 years young and even though this is not the first time he has undergone this procedure, it is none the less stressful especially at his age and cardiac risk.
Brooke interacted professionally and with much compassion not only with L and his wife but also with my husband and myself. We felt she went out of her way to ensure L understood what was going on and how things were going to progress. We didn't feel like he was just a number as Brooke seemed genuine and sincere each time she stepped into the room.
Brooke was attentive and had some real conversations with L which he very much appreciated; actually, with all of us. Brooke has a great sense of humor and alleviated the stress L was feeling when we arrived. Following the procedure, after L was dressed, he placed his black WWII cap on his head and Brooke confirmed with L if he served in the war and then thanked him for his service. Wow, that was a topic of conversation in the car ride home as well as when we got back to their home. Thank you, Brooke, for making a 94-year-old patient feel like a 94-year-old human being!
There were multiple other individuals that we interacted with that also provided outstanding care, but the point is from the time we walked into the unit we felt it was a very pleasant experience and we appreciate the outstanding care L received.
