Brooke Kinderman

It is with great admiration and respect that I nominate Brooke for the DAISY Award. She consistently embodies the spirit of nursing through her compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the emotional and physical well-being of her patients and peers. Brooke extends kindness and empathy not only to her patients, but to everyone around her. She demonstrates a true generosity of spirit in every interaction. Cheering on her classmates, celebrating their achievements, and offering support when burdens feel heavy, her quiet but steady presence uplifts those she works with, making her a cherished teammate and trusted friend in the clinical setting.

 

During her time at Slate Valley Center, Brooke went above and beyond in her care for a blind gentleman. She made a point to sit with him during meals, offering companionship and conversation that brightened his day. She also performed his wound care with remarkable gentleness and professionalism, speaking with him throughout the process to offer distraction and comfort. Brooke didn't stop at clinical duties; she also advocated for his daily "extra" cup of coffee with breakfast, ensuring it was just the way he liked it. Her efforts did not go unnoticed; his gratitude was shared with both staff and instructors.

 

Another example of her compassionate spirit was seen in the friendship she built with a resident who had been transferred to a different unit. Despite the move, he routinely returned to the unit just to say hello to Brooke-a clear reflection of the meaningful impact she had on his life through simple conversation, interest in his story, and a shared love of music.

 

Brooke also brought joy to many others at the facility through shared laughter and creativity during activities. She created moments that mattered, smiles, memories, and genuine connection, without ever compromising the quality or timeliness of her clinical responsibilities. On the contrary, her ability to balance both technical care and emotional support is a testament to her dedication and skill. She is the kind of caregiver who is always willing to lend a hand-no task is too small; no person is unworthy of her attention. Brooke steps in to help anyone and everyone, without complaint and without needing recognition.

 

Brooke exemplifies what it means to be a nurse: compassionate, attentive, skillful, and selfless. Her patients feel seen and valued. Her peers feel supported and encouraged. Brooke makes every environment she enters better, and she leaves a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.
