Brooke was working in the Emergency Department the day that the patient and her husband presented to the hospital. The patient was experiencing her third miscarriage, and she and her husband were beyond distraught. The patient was treated and later was admitted to the Women’s Services Unit. Upon admission to the unit, she asked to speak to the manager of the department. They had a special request for the manager. They asked that the Emergency Department be recognized for the great care provided to her, especially their nurse Brooke. They wanted her manager to know that she was exceptional. They both expressed the compassion and care that they were provided by Brooke stating: "She took her time with us. She never appeared rushed or acted as though she had somewhere else that she needed to be." The patient described Brooke as "caring, comforting, genuine, and overall, a rock" for her and her husband on one of the worst days of their lives. "She will always have a very special place in our hearts."

Brooke is a very special person and colleague and couldn't be more deserving of an Award of this magnitude. Brooke Landry was the very first DAISY Award recipient celebrated at Ochsner St. Mary in Morgan City.
