Brooke exemplifies the values of a DAISY Nurse every day. She has been mentoring me and ensuring that I will be ready to be an effective endoscopy nurse on my own once I am off of my fellowship, but she also consistently mentors and educates all of her coworkers and always encourages everyone to think about the best interest, safety, and evidence-based practice for our patients. She is always the first person to jump up to assist in any situation and is extremely accountable. She is kind and compassionate to every patient and family member.
Recently, during a lunch break with coworkers, we were sitting in front of a window in view of the valet parking area. We saw a woman walking extremely slowly with a cane towards the entrance, and the situation did not look safe. Rather than calling transport or someone to assist the patient, Brooke left her lunch break and literally ran and grabbed a wheelchair down the hallway, then wheeled it quickly outside to the patient. The patient sat in the wheelchair, and Brooke wheeled the patient to her appointment.
This was an exceptional nursing moment, but to Brooke, this was a normal moment as she often goes above and beyond for her patients and her coworkers. I appreciate all that she has taught and done for me and respect the nurse that she is towards her patients.
