Although everyone in the NICU has been a superhero, there is one nurse who has really stood out. Brooke admitted AG and made sure she was taken care of first. When mom and dad arrived, Brooke took great care of them as well. She described AG’s condition in detail. She explained all the monitors, lines, and respirators. She provided us the assurance that our baby was getting the BEST care possible. She was one on one with AG so we knew our baby was being closely watched and cared for. AG is progressing but the care and concern Brooke provides are just as intense. She makes sure the “little things” are always provided to the scared and worried mom, dad, and grandpa. She made sure mom and dad got to do her first feeding (it was a tube feeding). They also got to change her first dirty diaper. This may seem very trivial to some but was so very important to mom. We know there is a long road ahead, AG has Down Syndrome, still requires respiratory support, and has a heart defect but we know she is not only in the best hands, but the most knowledgeable and caring too. We are thankful for all the superheroes ESPECIALLY Brooke for going the extra mile.
