Miss Brooke! There are not many words to accurately describe the kind of nurse Brooke is, the kind of coworker she is, and the kind of person she is. An angel on this earth, and the best person for the work that we do. For every good moment that we have in the PICU, we have moments where we are reminded to go home, hug our loved ones, and tell them just how much they mean to us because we are reminded in real time just how short life can be. Working with Brooke reminds me of all of the good things this life has to offer. Today, I helped her with care for an extremely sad situation, and she couldn't have been a brighter light in that room.

There is a difference between a nurse who learns the skills to be a good nurse over time and a nurse who was meant to be exactly where they are from the start. That nurse is Brooke. She is so wonderful with the families, especially when they need her the most. She is patient, she is understanding, and she takes her time to give the patient and the family the best care possible. She is so gentle with her care, it's truly beautiful to watch. Although she was the primary nurse and I was the tech to help her out, she continued to check on me and anyone else who had to walk into that room. She is incredibly selfless. What is an impossibly sad and painful situation today is eased by Brooke's compassion and attention to detail, and there is no one I would have rather gone into that room with. Brooke deserves every award that she can possibly win, and I hope that every patient gets to have a nurse like Brooke.
