My mother was admitted during the major flu epidemic of 2018 and the hospital was "full" of folks struggling with the flu. Over the course of a few days, my mother was eventually moved to a room on the pediatric floor. My mother did not have the flu. Instead, she was dying from heart, renal and lung failure. No doubt several nurses attended to my mother yet one nurse in particular 'touched my heart', Brooke Talbot. I could hear in her voice the compassion to comfort both my dying mother as well as my sister and myself. Since this flu epidemic was such an infectious blight on the nation, both my sister and I could not be by my mother's side during this sad time. Yet Brooke stayed by her side, holding her hand, talking with her and giving her comfort just as if we had been there to do the same. This fine nurse encouraged both my sister and me to call every hour if we needed to check on our mother. The night that my mother passed away, before leaving to go home from her shift, Brooke personally took the time to call both my sister and me to check on us and ask how we were. Her kindness of caring for the dying yet remembering the living will not be forgotten. Her actions and the compassion in her tone of voice makes Brooke a true DAISY Nurse.
