Brooke Tastad is an exceptional nurse. Brooke is a compassionate nurse who truly cares for her patients. While I was working with her she was always watching over me. She became my role model nurse and someone I genuinely look up to. Brooke demonstrated being a healer in many different aspects of nursing. Brooke cares for her patients both physically and mentally. She is constantly being a patient advocate and making sure she does everything in her power to give her patients the best care she can. Brooke was my main guide into nursing. Transitioning from a student nurse to a nurse co-op was a big adjustment. Brooke always directed me in the right direction while showing me her ways. Every day I learned something different when working with Brooke. She not only gave me many opportunities to expand my nursing knowledge but she taught me the aspects of caring for patients that aren't learned in text books. In my opinion, one of her strongest qualities is communication. After only a year of nursing experience, she is not afraid to admit that she doesn't have all the answers. Sanford has many resources available to nurses that Brooke is sure to utilize. She has taught me to ask questions about anything I am unsure of and that it is never a bad idea to get another nurses opinion. Brooke taught me how to utilize Micromedex when unsure about medications. Nursing can sometimes be a very fast paste career. When we found ourselves too busy to adequately care for each of our patients, she was never afraid to ask the circulator to help. Brooke was very comfortable when collaborating with different doctors and advocating for the patients. Pain Management was an area Brooke always advocated for in our patients. If there was something Brooke could do to better the care of her patients she was always on it. Finally, this summer Brooke showed me that she is a leader. During my time with her many nurses would ask for her opinion on different situations. Her coworkers trust her judgment and collaborate with her on a daily basis. I am so thankful for the time I was able to work under Brooke as my preceptor. She has taught me more about nursing than I ever would have learned in school alone. She has helped me to develop my nursing skills while expanding my knowledge on medication, pain management, anatomy, procedures, policies, and communication. I have gained confidence in myself going into my senior year after the experiences I have had with Brooke. Brooke is an extraordinary nurse and I know any of her patients would say the same thing. Her patients are more than grateful for having her as a nurse and all say the care was exceptional during the time spent at Sanford. Brooke is an excellent nurse who brings hope to her patients and goals of recovery. When entering into my career I hope to become an excellent of a nurse as she is.
