I truly do not know where to begin. During our time we had so many nurses that touched our hearts and it was truly unbelievable. Of all those nurses Brooklynn Cutshaw was a shining star and a hero. The love in her heart for our baby and all her babies was so special to see. Her care was more than just a nurse and patient. Her care was like a mother and child. The way she would softly comfort our baby while he cried out in pain or would gently rock him back to sleep more times than you could count. She is the one nurse who I feel changed his recovery. When she became his nurse, our little baby began having wonderful restful nights. He began needing less “rescue doses”. He began to thrive, and it was all because of Brooklynn. It was always such a comfort to know Brooklynn was his nurse because we knew she would treat him like her own. When she was caring for him her attention to detail was amazing. The way she would match his sheets, blankets, and clothes was just that special detail only a mother would think of. She would take the time to give him a bath before going home at night so he would be clean for the next day. Then the final thing that melted our hearts was when she showed up at 9 pm on her day off just so she could tell him bye since he was being discharged in the morning. When I saw her walk into the room, I had to fight back tears because I knew more than his nurse had come to see him. His friend had come to say goodbye. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of recognition than Brooklynn for not only her care of my baby, but for her outstanding and inspiring care of all the NICU babies.
