There was a critical patient brought into STM who looked to have a negative outcome. This requires all hands on deck, multiple team members working together, and other departments helping. During this time with the patient, Bruce was a great and compassionate leader. He did an excellent job at assisting the doctor and being available for his coworkers to ask questions and rely on him as a leader. He took the time to verify all orders and ensure that the best care was being provided to the patients, even asking clarifying questions for himself and asking for help from his teammates. During this stressful time, he could have disregarded the student who was following him, but not only was excellent care provided, but he also took the time to educate the student about the situation and the medications that were given, and helped them understand what was happening. Bruce was respectful to all staff involved with this patient and to the family, never once showing frustration or being overwhelmed. He excelled in patient and student interactions by providing excellent care and teaching to both. He was also a great support to teammates, taking the time to make sure everything was done correctly, from the medication being given to the report being called, and even making sure the EMTALA was filled out correctly. He showed his human kindness, leadership skills, compassion, and ability to provide that care to any patient.
