Bryan is one of our more senior nurses on the Step Down unit and he is a true leader and valued member of our team. Bryan has a military background, he served in active duty for the United States Air Force from 2009 to 2015. One night Bryan was caring for an elderly man who was at the end of his life. The patient's son was at his bedside and was so appreciative of Bryan for his care and compassion. Bryan took the time to speak to the patient's son and get to know him and the patient. He learned that the patient was a fellow military veteran. At the end of his shift, Bryan stayed after to continue to care for this patient. The patient's son told Bryan that he should go home and get some rest, to which Bryan stated "us military boys don't leave our brothers." Bryan stayed and the patient passed shortly after. This patient's son called the unit days later to speak of how appreciative he was that Bryan would honor his father in such a respectful way and how he went above and beyond to show respect to his father as a fellow veteran. The patient's son stated that Bryan gave exceptional care and he could not speak highly enough about him. We are so lucky to have Bryan as a member of our team.
