My 22-month-old son was admitted to Lakeside OR for cast placement following a femur fracture. My experience was wonderful all around but the RN from the OR, Bryan Wagner, was amazing. OR RNs spend minimal time with patients compared to RNs on the units. For this reason, Bryan's impact on our stay, being so positive is noteworthy. My husband and I were scared to death having our child go into the OR, even though I am an ER nurse, I was mamma at that time. Bryan reassured me 3 separate times that he would care for my son as "his own". Every time he said it, I believed him more. In the short time Bryan had to care for my son in the OR, he called us 4 times. He confirmed my cell phone number twice and when it didn't ring (for reasons unknown) he called the surgical waiting room, just to tell me that my son was doing well. It was above and beyond, but so appreciated. Bryan came and got me and walked me to recovery to be with my baby. I have never felt so comfortable leaving my child in someone's care.
If it wasn't for Bryan's reassurance I don't think I could have held it together as well as I did. He even told me he had a 14-year-old daughter and he stated he would care for my son as if he was caring for her. He is a wonderful testament to the mission we are creating at Tulane Lakeside.
