Bryce made it apparent that he cares about his staff, professionally navigated the difficulties that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic, and was a trusted leader during my time on the 8th floor.
Bryce was an outstanding leader in the clinical manager role on Level 8 prior to his transition to director of patient care services. I have countless examples of his exceptional leadership, but several instances that come to mind include shifts in which he worked on the floor to accommodate nursing, BHS, and CA shortages. On one occasion, I was the night shift charge nurse and notified Bryce that the unit was full, needed to run with one charge nurse, and that all nurses would have four patients for dayshift. I later found out that Bryce came into work that day to answer call lights, provide lunch coverage for employees, and break 1:1s. While this was impressive in itself, this day happened to be a weekend and Bryce's birthday. He later oriented to the charge role, so he was able to better assist with unit needs and work as a charge nurse when necessary. He was creative in coming up with solutions for issues related to staffing, willing to help in any capacity, and transparent regarding unit operations. Additionally, he was always supportive of my career and academic goals while I was attending school and working. He made it apparent that he cares about his staff, professionally navigated the difficulties that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic, and was a trusted leader during my time on the 8th floor. Though I no longer work on Level 8, I have fond memories of my time there, and Bryce played a significant role in my positive experience as an 8th-floor nurse.
