Bryn has gone above and beyond with her nursing care of a medically complex and emotionally charged patient situation. She meets the challenges of nursing care for this patient with enthusiasm and positivity. Bryn values the fundamentals of nursing by promoting repositioning and skin-to-skin time for the infant with mom, even though it requires a complicated transfer process.

Bryn does an exceptional job of including the family in the infant’s care plan and providing frequent education in a way that allows the family to better understand their infant’s condition and care management. She shows extraordinary compassion and empathy to the infant and family, regardless of what is going on in the unit and, furthermore, in her own life. She puts her patients first.

Today, Bryn had a personal appointment that she was planning to leave early for. The mother was nervous about holding her infant today, given his unstable condition. Bryn encouraged her while simultaneously educating her about the benefits of holding an infant skin-to-skin. The mom was comforted by Bryn’s knowledge and support and was grateful to be able to participate in skin-to-skin kangaroo care for the first time.

After we got the mom and infant settled in together, the mom explained that she had hoped Bryn would be at her side to help her transition the infant back to the isolate. Bryn selflessly canceled her appointment to remain present for the family. She is deeply dedicated to her patients and their families, and she is passionate about providing excellent care to her patients and support to her coworkers. I feel incredibly lucky to learn from and work alongside a nurse like Bryn. Many, if not all, of Bryn’s peers look up to and admire her as a nurse and as a person. She is my role model and inspires me to be a better nurse in every way.
