Our dear friend remained in the ICU for 48 hours and after consultation with the MDs it was determined that his sepsis was worsening despite all medications, and we made the decision to honor his wishes for comfort care. Bryson called to inform me that our friend's condition was worsening and that we should come to his bedside. When we arrived, Bryson explained the changes, listened to our questions, and answered them. He discussed that we could stop the meds and keep him comfortable. He allowed us to set a time to stop the meds and silence the monitor. Bryson remained at the bedside with us and provided comfort and support. He allowed us as much time as we needed after our friend passed away. Bryson gave us small glass vials with EKG strips of our loved one's heartbeat for us to carry home. It was such a thoughtful and caring memento.
