A family member of an open heart surgery patient came to the unit desk stating she was from out of town and that her insulin pump needed new tubing. She was waiting for her family member to get done with open heart surgery and did not want to leave and go home for the tubing. This visitor is a brittle diabetic. Unfortunately, our facility does not carry this specific type of insulin pump tubing and our local medical supplier also did not have any. Burt made a phone call, found her the tubing and went out on his lunch to pick it up for her so she did not have to leave the hospital or her family member.
Burt has repeatedly demonstrated his exemplary nursing care with his compassion in patient care, his excellence in communication, and his continuous learning and representation on the unit councils. Burt is an outstanding nursing role model.
