The patient was transferred from PACU to 7 South where Bushra initiated care for this patient after he had a spinal surgery. Upon arrival to the unit, Bushra recognized that the patient had decreased sensation in his legs and could no longer move them. She quickly contacted the neuro-surgery team and moved the patient back to the OR for emergency surgery to address the new onset paralysis. Because of Bushra’s quick action, the patient regained sensation and movement in both legs. He was able to be discharged home with his wife and family a few days later. Her quick reaction insured that her patient would have a great outcome. The impact that his discovery had on their family member was huge and it highlighted Beaumont for having great nurses.
