Emily helped me feel less afraid and more confident in myself when I felt the most insecure. Emily cares for not only the patients and families but for her fellow co-workers with such care and compassion.
As a new nurse, I feel especially vulnerable and afraid of making mistakes - more so the consequences of making mistakes. There were a couple of times I had done something wrong but Emily, as charge nurse, consoled and calmly explained what happened and what I needed to do to fix things. She helped me feel less afraid and more confident in myself when I felt the most insecure. She knew exactly what to say and how to say things under each circumstance. I always feel she is there for me, for all of us, when she's charge. Also, she is one of my most valuable resources as she's one of the most knowledgeable nurses I know - I never feel uncomfortable asking her questions.
Another instance of her great leadership is when I was put as charge on the night shift (for the first time), nor have taken the class due to extreme short staffing. Emily was the day shift charge nurse and she stayed late to walk me through all of the routine checks, assure I had all the resources I need, including greeting me to the 7East charge nurses and secretaries to help me through the night. She allowed me to contact her while she was off shift in case I was faced with a challenge. She even made a draft assignment shift for the next shift. All so I didn't feel as overwhelmed as I could've been. I wouldn't have been able to get through that night without her.
Emily cares for not only the patients and families but for her fellow co-workers with such care and compassion. She wants everyone to succeed and feel confident doing so. She has always been a role model for me as a new nurse and for others as well, I'm sure of it. She deserves recognition for going above and beyond every day she shows up for work.
