Caitlin made me feel like M was her only patient. She explained everything to me. What the medications were for and what the lab numbers meant. She treated M with respect and me as a friend. She let me help her and the techs, like handing them pillows or closing the Velcro on his boots. It gave me purpose. One morning I ran into her on my way in, she said she checked on him even though she was not working in the ICU that shift. Another day, she came into his just to check on me. I will always remember the beginning of M’s stay. At the end of one of her shifts, she left and said, "Thank you for being my friend and talking with me all day." I should have said that to her.
