Caitlin motivated my daughter to get up and walk when I was unsuccessful in doing so and did it patiently while sympathizing with her at the same time.
My 12 year old daughter was admitted to the 5th floor of the Children’s Medical Center after an emergency appendectomy. Caitlin D. was our admitting nurse and she was attentive and sensitive to my daughter’s pain/privacy needs right from the start despite the fact that she had several other patients to care for. My daughter is very modest and Caitlin made sure that when it was time to assess her dressings she stayed covered. She motivated my daughter to get up and walk when I was unsuccessful in doing so and did it patiently while sympathizing with her at the same time. She brought her a book to read from her own locker knowing that my daughter is a voracious reader in an effort to distract her from her pain/discomfort. She treated me as a part of her care team which I deeply appreciated. Each encounter with Caitlin, no matter how busy she was, was pleasant and she never made us feel like we were inconveniencing her or rushing her. She advocated for my daughter when she was in extreme pain and intervened when she could. I know these seem like things a nurse should do with every patient every time but she truly went above and beyond to make my daughter as comfortable as possible and there were several times that it took longer than she probably had time for. She is a truly exceptional nurse and we are so very grateful for her competence, patience, and kindness during a very scary and painful time for a 12-year-old girl. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Caitlin. We truly appreciate everything you did. You are a true DAISY Nurse to us!
