August 2023 Honoree
Caitlin Miller, RN
My oldest friend, T, was dying, and palliative care was being administered. Caitlin was her nurse, and she was phenomenal. We were heartbroken and exhausted. T had been an oncology nurse for years and had made it her mission to keep the pain of her patients well-controlled and to keep them from suffering needlessly. We were concerned that T was suffering for several hours, and Caitlin advocated for T, and for us. She addressed our concerns with the residents on duty and took exceptional care of T in her final moments. Caitlin was professional, confident, skilled, compassionate with T and us (T's loved ones), kind, and alleviated all our concerns. She brought us pillows and blankets as the night stretched into the early morning hours. Caitlin even brought us a basket with snacks and drinks. Not only did Caitlin take exceptional care of her patient, but she also took exceptional care of her patient's loved ones. T is Dr. T, a nurse, and nurse educator. T dedicated her life to helping her patients, and to creating new nurses. I will remember Caitlin forever, and I will be forever grateful Caitlin was the last nurse to care for T. We couldn't have had anyone better. Caitlin is a tremendous asset to the hospital, and to the entire profession of nursing.
Thank you, Caitlin, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
