Caitlin sat down with us; listened to us; comforted us; asked us questions and answered ours and stayed with us for quite a while.
I had a bowel resection surgery at Delnor Hospital. I was supposed to go home in 3 days. Complications arose and I underwent a 2nd surgery to have a temporary ileostomy bag attached. A few days later, they told me that my white blood cell count was too high, and I would have to stay until they figured it out.
My wife and I were both crying when my nurse that day, Caitlin, came into the room. She sat down with us; listened to us; comforted us; asked us questions and answered ours and stayed with us for quite a while.
From that day forward, any day she was my nurse we felt very blessed. I ended up needing a PICC line in my arm, and a procedure to have an abscess removed. Caitlin kept us informed and took what we thought was extra care of me.
When I came back from having the abscess removed, Caitlin saw me in the hallway and said, "They got all of it!". I said, "I needed a win!" and she squeezed my hand and said, "You got it!"
Finally, after 16 days in the hospital, I was released. The only thing we were sad about was Caitlin was off that day, so we couldn't thank her. The day before she said, "I really hope when I come to work Saturday, you are not here!"
Our family has a large group of caregivers, including an ER nurse, a wound nurse, and a paramedic. All agreed Caitlin was a blessing to us.
