Cait is a charge nurse, preceptor, team player, and friend to all of her colleagues.
I would like to take a moment to formally recognize and appreciate all of the hard work Caitlin Gaetani does to ensure her patients receive the best care that they can, considering the entire person and the whole patient experience. Cait goes above and beyond for all of her patients and never takes the credit for it that she deserves.
For example, one of the patients on 2NB that we had taken care of had an extensive ICU stay. That patient’s hands were necrotic from high dose pressors, and the patient could no longer do anything for herself, she had a difficult time communicating and she was trying to adjust her mindset to fit this new life that she had to live. Needless to say, the patient was struggling physically, emotionally, and mentally. Caitlin took the time to acknowledge her concerns, support her, and encourage her throughout her stay on the Med/Surg unit.
One of the ways Cait took into account her emotional and mental health was by getting the patient out of bed into a chair via a Hoyer lift and rolling her in the recliner out to the balcony to get some fresh air and sunshine. The patient lit up with joy and the daughters of the patient stated that they hadn’t seen their mother smile that much during her time in the hospital. It would’ve been easy for Cait to open up the window and have the patient look outside, but this nurse knew what it meant to the patient to feel a sense of normalcy and comfort. The things we take advantage of, being of able body and mind, can go easily overlooked when taking care of our patients- but not when Caitlyn is your nurse.

I don’t think she has ever said “no” to someone who asked for help, it doesn't matter what department they are from or who they are. Cait is someone that everyone can rely on, she shows compassion and empathy in her everyday work, and she is extremely supportive of the Griffin Hospital team, especially the 2 North B crew. I am honored to write a nomination for someone so committed and dedicated, who thinks about exactly how to make every one of her patient’s days better, and to a nurse who exemplifies all that it means to be a Planetree caregiver. It is without a doubt that Cait goes above and beyond for more patients than just the one I mentioned.
