She brought me a cup of tea and some crackers, showed me where the café was, and got me a social worker to sit with me until I could get in contact with my children.
My husband was diagnosed with bleed in his aneurysm and we were sent to Boston for surgery. He was brought to surgery early in the morning, but before he went, his nurse ensured he had his one request met—having a Chaplin pray for his health. The Chaplin came, and he was taken away. I couldn’t get in touch with my children, I hadn’t eaten or had anything to drink in hours— she brought me a cup of tea and some crackers, showed me where the café was, and got me a social worker to sit with me until I could get in contact with my children. She took the time not only to care for my husband but also to make sure I was taken care of—which isn’t her job. Being almost 90 years old, it’s hard to navigate around a place I’ve never been, and she made my experience comfortable and my husband’s experience dignified.
