Caleb cared for my uncle after he had been run over by a tractor resulting in him being airlifted to Fargo ICU. Caleb was his nurse for two days and always took the extra time to answer questions and fill us in on changes to my uncle's condition. He was exceptional at telling my uncle what care they were completing and plans for the day. He tried to keep our spirits up and get us to laugh.
Caleb took the time out to come to check on us during his office day and discussed the updates with us. He was obviously very knowledgeable about his job and able to explain things at levels that my family could understand, which as a nurse myself, I know can sometimes be a struggle to find the right words.
Additionally, he was very compassionate with my 93-year-old grandmother and always seeing if she needed anything or was doing ok. To me, he is what I envision a DAISY Award nurse should be. We were very thankful and appreciative of his care. He was also trying to ensure my uncle's comfort while he was sedated and intubated. Caleb was always trying to think of what best treatment options would be and made his recommendations to the physicians which were then usually incorporated.
