Caleb was the young man waiting to welcome me and take care of me. I was met with his gentle disposition, soft smile, gentle hands, caring touch, and patience.
I have faced many medical challenges since my original uterine angiosarcoma was found in 2009. In 2014 it metastasized to my right lung, resulting in a lobectomy. I have had bilateral knee replacements and I undergo weekly infusions for alpha 1. Needless to say, I have been exposed to many medical personnel.
I came into Chippenham Hospital by squad in 2023. I was experiencing new, scary, conditions that I had never had before. The original care team was speculating A fib. After numerous hours in the ER, with numerous, wonderful caring nurses, I was sent up to CVPCU. Caleb was the young man waiting to welcome me and take care of me. I was met with his gentle disposition, soft smile, gentle hands, caring touch, and patience. His calming voice when explaining to me, or assisting me, soothed my rattled nerves so quickly. I have had many male nurses through my trials and tribulations, however, I have never experienced a level of care like I felt with this nurse tending to me.
There was no man or woman difference, I was just an extended part of his heart and hands helping me. Never once did I feel embarrassment or unease when he was tending to me or talking about any blatant subjects. All I felt was God had given me the beautiful soul of an earthly angel to help me navigate through a scary new medical condition that came my way. Sometimes in life, we meet special people who help us regain our strength. I call them God-gifts. Caleb was my God-gift.
