She treated him with dignity and respect, and gave the best hugs the day that we had to say goodbye to him.
Callie was one of many excellent nurses that we had during our time spent supporting my father-in-law while in the CTICU. Callie was someone with whom we all connected and built quick trust and rapport. She spent a lot of time on the meticulous care, such as his Impellas, his drips, and his HD… but she spent time listening to more about who my father-in-law was as a human. She spent time ensuring he had a good bath and washed and styled his hair. Her attention to these details that are so important to family did not go unnoticed. She treated him with dignity and respect, and gave the best hugs the day that we had to say goodbye to him. Callie is a special breed of ICU nurse. As two ex-ER RNs, we have our fair share of experiences with how difficult nursing can be, even on the best day. She didn’t let the obnoxious singing of the CRRT make her frustrated. She was prepared with the next bag to hang as soon as the IV pump chirped. These nurses worked hard all shift as a 1:1 with my father-in-law, and her willingness to go above and beyond is something we will all remember and appreciate forever.
