She handed me a white box with a beautiful bracelet, and said “When you look at this, remember that you are loved and cared for.”
I was diagnosed with Liver cirrhosis in January 2023. I had no warning signs and no knowledge of the disease. I was hospitalized often and would get my stomach drained weekly. The fluid was very painful and affected my breathing and other body organs. It has been a very emotional and exhausting ordeal.
During my recent hospitalization, I was hopeful that I would be able to have a procedure that would help manage the disease. I was doing well emotionally until I received the devastating news that it would be too risky for me to have.
I have been here many times and have gotten to know some wonderful nurses. The day I had the doctor tell me that I would not be a good candidate, a new nurse I had never met came into my room smiling and introduced herself as Callie. She stated that she would be caring for me today. Knowing that the “potential plan” changed, Callie came and supported me with kind words. She checked on me throughout the day, and after her lunch break, she came in with a gift. She handed me a white box with a beautiful bracelet, and said “When you look at this, remember that you are loved and cared for.” Her kind words and gesture are what helped me get through that day. I will look at my bracelet, and remember her kind words, and believe God sent her to be my Angel that day.
