My spouse and I have had our share of hospitalizations over the years. However, during my spouse’s latest stay in La Crosse, we were impressed and grateful to the staff on the seventh floor. One nurse, Calvin Steffes, was our RN. Since my spouse was admitted late in the day and due to my own health issues, I was not able to stay until his admission. However, my son stayed.

Early the next morning, I called the hospital to inquire about my spouse’s condition since there were no diagnoses on the night prior. A cheerful voice greeted me, and after explaining the situation, Cal was able to hook me up with the night shift nurse, who gave me a brief update. When I came to visit my spouse that day, they required a lot of attention. Cal took care of my spouse, and while I visited, he checked them several times and was very patient while explaining the test procedures that would take place during the day. He also made sure that I was comfortable and asked if he could do anything for me as I have health issues. Cal's kindness, patience, and explaining the procedures on how to take care of my spouse’s needs after the discharge were unbelievable. He even made sure that I had a printout of the different steps that I would have to follow. I am so grateful for these very thoughtful gestures.

Mayo is very lucky to have such an astute and kind RN working for them.
