Cameron is always a great team player. He is always willing to help other staff and patients out. Cameron was recently working an extra shift for us. On this particular day, we had admitted a patient to our unit with significant mental illness. This patient was angry and verbally assaulting staff. This patient was initially assigned to another nurse but the patient had increasing agitation and female staff seemed to agitate him more.
Cameron responded to the room during one of the patient's outbursts. He calmly took control of the situation and de-escalated the situation with the patient. He volunteered to take over care of this patient even though he had his own patients down another hall. His calm demeanor and prior experience helped calm the patient. Cameron stepping up in this manner improved care for the patient and helped calm the unit. Cameron is always an exceptional team member this situation highlights his strengths.
